We happened to have a talk on spiders tonight at our local Nature
Conservation society! The hall was packed and the speaker arrived with a
selection of live spiders in little cages. She said this fear of spiders is
transmitted from mothers to children but in my experience men are much more
wary of spiders than women!! The speaker also said that more people die
from human bites than from spider bites. Fortunately I had taken my husband
along who kills every spider in sight!
She also talked about the spiders in the hair and said that the story always
comes from the cousin of a cousin of a FIL's half-sister - never first-hand!
Spiders eat other insects and keep them under control. She kept the whole
audience enthralled for more than a hour.
