But why is it, when I have the time to do all those latter things, I don't
seem to have the energy. Can one sort of 'postpone' the recuperation
until
one feels slightly more the ticket, and can cope with yards of
lace-making?

It would be nice to be able to postpone the recuperation time until one felt
strong enough to do something. I found after my operations in 2005, that I
also didn't have the energy to do anything much. My curate suggested I
subscribed to Netflix and rented movies that I wanted to see (but had never
got round to). I am someone who watches little television normally, and
falls asleep in cinemas, so there are plenty of movies to watch! Normally I
would knit / crochet /embroider if there was something I really wanted to
watch on TV but after the operations I didn't even have the energy for that.
It is surprising how much operations take out of one, and you have to be
even more gentle on yourself than I expected.
Take good care - and don't feel guilty about not even making lace.
