Which reminded me of an exercise in my first-year German
class -- to practice talking, we played a game of "Miene
Tante kommt aus Amerika" (I no longer remember how to spell
it!). (I've also forgotten the name of the equivalent
English game.) Each student in turn said that his aunt was
coming from America and bringing with her everything that
the previous student had said, plus one more item. Because
of our limited vocabulary, the list quickly got exceedingly
queer, and we gave hints instead of letting people drop out,
so the list got longer and longer. After a couple of
rounds, someone said "und ein gepaektraeger!" (and a
porter!) (After remembering the list got to be a strain, the
last item tended to be exclaimed.)
Three or four rounds after that, someone added "und ein Artz
fuer der gepaektraeger!" (and a doctor for the porter.)
Apologies for my grammar and spelling -- but the
vowel-plus-e's where vowels with two dots belong aren't my
fault.
