I looked up the Wikipedia page for Altoids:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Altoids

An impressive array of tin designs, but I have never seen them. Possible explanation is:

"Altoids are produced in Britain by Callard & Bowser-Suchard at Bridgend, Wales, although Wrigley, the brand's owner, announced in mid 2005 they planned to move Altoids production to an existing plant in Chattanooga, Tennessee in order to manufacture its products closer to where they are sold. "

so it seems, if they are sold in the UK, they're not common. Extra strong mints (in fact most mints) tend to come in paper and foil rolls rather than tins.
