Indeed!
I always renew in early July, as soon as I get the 4th issue of the
cycle. Did so a couple of years ago... And, sometime in September, got
an e-mail message from Laurie, asking me if I really wanted to drop the
subscription. Total panic; whatever happened to my check? It hadn't
been returned as cashed, but it's not unusual for organisations to take
their sweet time to process checks; I wasn't worried until I got that
message.
Now that I was alerted... I noticed that *two* checks -- both written
on the same day -- had not cleared. The other was to UNICEF; they'd not
bug me about not receiving it, because they send begging letters every
couple of weeks, while I send my contributions only twice a year. A
frantic dig through the Augean stable (aka the kitchen table, where I
do all of the non-'puter work, including pricking and diagram drawing,
bobbin winding, etc) unearthed both envelopes -- sealed, addressed,
stamped... Just not dropped off at the PO :) Because I don't go
downtown every day; it's a "special trip" and waits till I have several
errands to run in that area.
I don't think a bright reminder postcard would have changed the
situation any. I know that the bright renewal-reminder insert from the
Canadian Lace Gazette and a less-bright renewal form from the New
England Lace Group have to be rescued from the pile daily, and are
losing the battle with all the new mail that accumulates on top of
them. Also daily.
Perhaps, with more and more people now e-connected, the notices could
be sent, wholesale, to everyone (not just to those who are slipping),
via this novel medium? With s-mail notices sent only to those who don't
have an e-connection? Of course, there's always the dread of the
notices getting lost in one's Spam Filter.... :)
And yeah, I know... All of this should be thrashed out on the IOLI
website, not here. But the IOLI website... You get what you pay for, I
guess :)
