Probably just inflation.

The cost of food has risen by 8.9% in the past year alone, although the official inflation rate (on which public sector pay rises are based) is only around 3%. Energy costs gas, electricity) have just risen by 15%. Fuel has reached well over £1.00 per litre and the tax on that will e increased by 2 pence per litre in 6 months time, without the cost of oil rising. All of that has to be taken into account when working out the price of a room.

Compound that year by year for the past 10 years and double would seem about right, or even a bit low.

We had the annual budget from the government yesterday. It's now cheaper to snort a line of cocaine than to buy a glass of cider.
