Re poodle skirts, mine had music notes in felt appliquéd around the base,
the net underskirts were starched so that the skirt stood out that far it
was difficult to sit down without the front of the skirt rising up and
hitting you in the face, the elastic belt we called a "waspie" and it was
pulled in as tight as you could and still be able to breathe. We also wore a
button up cardigan fully buttoned up but put on back to front so the buttons
went down the back.  The black shoes we called ballerinas and were made of a
velvet material they were worn with ankle socks turned over twice.   The
Dusty Springfield eye makeup always got a " you look like a flaming panda"
from my dad as I came downstairs to go out thinking I looked the cats
whiskers.  Oh what happy days
