And my mother in central Ohio used "sky blue pink with a heavenly border" - usually to answer one of those unanswerable childhood questions about what color the curtains were going to be... It kept me puzzling for years!


And from Cheshire, it was "sky blue pink with a finny haddy border". I never
asked but assumed that "finny haddy " stood for "Finnan haddock", but maybe
not! (At least it would still be a yellow border!)

Mom always used "sky-blue pink" as it was, but also "ginger-pink with black spots" - like me, she was born in Birmingham - though her family came from Herefordshire and Wiltshire. I'm not sure I ever heard my father use either - he and his forebears were born in Stamford, Lincs.
