I came back from Ithaca last evening. I will say that I had a wonderful time. I ate like I shouldn't and enjoyed every mouthful that I shoved down the throat. I especially loved the Chocolate Mouse Cake with the rich dark chocolate frosting. Of coarse I am not sure I would call the frosting on the cake frosting. It isn't like any frosting I have made. The cakes were beautifully decorated. Years ago...we had the same yummy cake for dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and on top of the cake was sugary bobbin and tatting shuttle. Would you believe I still have them? LOL. Maybe I should take them with me next year for show and tell.
I did get a couple pictures of the "die and went to heaven dessert". Some of the discussion was to tie or not to tie a knot on your bobbin when winding your bobbins. The censes was cenus was...not to tie. And we agree on demonstrating easy looking lace with new bobbins and to do it slowly and to have a more elaborate piece of lace in progress on another pillow for show. I shared a room with a wonderful person Jennifer McNitt. IT was for only one night since had to get back home last night. Reality bites and I knew I have to be back home for the chicklets ( my Grandchildren that I babysit for). But it was nice to get away. The drive from my house is about one hour and thirty mintues and since FAll is here the trees were beautiful and painted a breathtaking scenery in the distance. The sun was shining thorugh the trees and it was enough beautification to appreciate the wonder that is around us. In another words...I enjoyed the drive home. I took "Wire Lace" that was taught by Jos'ee Poupart. (If anybody can tell me how to put the hyphen above the letter e let me know. It was a French name) Jos'ee is from Quebec, Canada and she was a wonderful teacher. She was very easy going and soft spoken and very much in control. I so enjoyed her class and learned alot. Later on today I will trying and finish my class project and I will post a picture of it on my blog along with some other pictures I took. I also got to finally use the hookie alumuium bobbins my husband turned for me a couple years ago. My husband got loads of compliments on the bobbins but he wasn't there to hear them...so I passed that bit of information on to him last evening. Speaking of pictures I took alot of pictures. I always do especially of the display. Usually when I go to Ithaca Lace Days I am overwhelmed and I can't remember the fast moving pictures that goes through my brain...so I take lots of pictures and then I sit in front of my computer and look at all the eye candy. The lace on display was as usually take your breath away pieces of beautiful lace. I myself didn't put any lace on display this year. I will have to work on myself to crank some lace pieces out to put on the display for next year. I am thinking of designing some lace in wire. It was great to see my lacing friends from last year. My children gave me some money so I did buy a few bobbins which one of them was an Acorn Bobbin I think for the bottom of the bobbin reminded me of an acorn and it had the most beautiful pink painted flowers on it. The bobbin attracted my eyes to it right away and it called my name...buy me...buy me...so I did. I also came home with a beautiful Point De Gauze which is a fine needle lace. It is beautiful and have the pocketed rose flowers in the design. I spent some time in admiring that. It was a gift from my fellow lace maker that I always spent time with. IT is a special piece of lace. I did take my Ms. Flozzy pillow with me with my continuous Bucks Point Edging that is on it for demonstration but it never even got out of my hat box that I carry it in. Of coarse there were vendors. Holly Van Sciver had all kinds of things to sell and if you are not careful you could spend a fortune. I bought a few bobbins from her and I have one book "Neue Weihnachts-Kloppelmuster" by Brigitte Bellon. There are some patterns in the book I want to do. The book has lots of stars, hearts and there is a couple patterns for Angels and there is a pattern for the three kings. It is mainly Scheenberger type of lace. It was thrilling to see Pamela Nottingham again and I also got to meet Robin Lewis-Wild who was the speaker for the banquet dinner which she had some interesting slides and has made some very interesting lace. I think the topic was what do you call lace and what you don't call lace. Somethings are to look like lace...but are not made in the traditional lace making way. It made you do some thinking. I got to talk to her later on in the bar that night though I wasn't drinking but I did have an Irish Coffee that I took into the banquet dinner with me. The only bad thing that happen to me was I lost my glass case for my glasses which I bought last year to help raise money for breast cancer. Anyhow...sometime soon I will put some pictures up on my blog...probably won't be today but soon. I Hope you have enjoyed reading my narritive for my fun time at Ithaca Lace Days.
