Carol, that name "Belstead House" brought back some wonderful memories of
weekends there, doing nothing but making lace with Geraldine Stott as tutor
and eating the most wonderful food in such a beautiful old house and
gardens.

The first time we went, one of the other tutors did not like sleeping in the
old house and preferred the annexe because the house is reputed to be
haunted by a circuit judge who used to chase the serving maids and allegedly
died there in suspicious circumstances, so my sister and I were offered her
room, it was lovely ,it had the most beautiful old furniture and we slept in
two truckle beds which were so small my feet were right at the bottom and I
am only 5ft tall. By the way I slept like a baby and was not bothered by
the judge, perhaps I was too old for him. Oh happy days.
