I'm probably re-inventing the shoelace and most of you have already applied your logical brains to the problem and are already doing it, but I've only just heard about it.

If you suffer with power cuts (power outages) or whatever else you call your electricity supply being suddenly cut off, instead of candles, torches, hurricane lamps or other lamps that require fuel, have some solar powered lights in your garden (yard or whatever), and when the power goes off bring them indoors for free light. Or even use them for low light levels when that's all you want to save on electricity costs. Not bright light, but neither are candles. And they're safe.

What a brilliant idea!

Obviously you can't watch the TV if there's no power, unlike a friend of mine who, when we had scheduled power cuts many years ago, said "I'm looking forward to the power cuts - I'll be able to watch TV in the dark."

We used to suffer power cuts most winters when we lived in the countryside, but have never had one since we moved to Poole 15 years ago, but I'm still going to get a few and put them in the wild part of our garden - might find out what's stealing the trays on which we put food for foxes every evening. We've lost four so far.
