Dear Friends,
I'm sure some of you are aware that Australia is currently in the midst
of its severest drought ever - probably climate change - and we are
using our water very wisely.
Here in Ballarat, which is 90,000 people, we only have about 8 months
water remaining, and there doesn't seem to be any rain on the
horizon................
Well, we have not seen a lot of rain in the last few weeks either, but
before that we had a lot of early spring rain. So at least my water
butts are full. But now it is too dry to get my veggies in and I have to
top up the fish pond every other day. We had a bit of drizzle this
morning, but that did not even wet the soil.
As regards billing: our latest year account showed that we used less
water, partly because we had enough rain last year. However, the greater
part of the estimate, about 60%, for this year is for sewage rather than
water for which the charges are much higher, just as David said.
We do get discount for draining the rain water from the guttering into
the water butts and soak aways: per quarter this is an amazing sum of
£1.00 discount on a £96 pound bill!
