There is an Historic Steam train - "Puffing Billy" that runs from Belgrave to Emerald , through the Dandenongs (a small mountain range near Melbourne). It is manned by volunteers, and is always full to over-flowing with visitors taking the beautiful ride through Tree fern country in a "Proper" train!! It is not allowed to run on days of Total Fire Ban, though.
We have just recently had the annual train race - Puffing Billy versus the 10,000+ foot runners who try to beat the train to Emerald!!! They usually get a rude honk from the train as they have to wait for it to pass at the level crossing!!! :)) Regards from Liz in Melbourne, Oz.
