Yesterday, a local group had an outing to eat Brunch at a winery in the hills.
While there, a group of ladies came in...all dressed up in black with white
accents, beads, sequins, and glittery jewelry. They each had an elaborate hat,
most with wide brims. Ruffles, net, feathers, ribbon, etc. It was a great
contrast to the normal casual attire people wear.

They told someone in our group that they were the Black Orchid Society. Later,
one of them admitted that they were a Red Hat Society group who liked to go out
without wearing the red & purple, once in a while. They did create a stir when
they entered. It looked like they were having fun.

On our way home, we stopped at a large garage sale at the Fire Dept in a small
town. I found a lace doily that had a stain in the middle, but looked
otherwise in good condition. When I asked the price, they said ten cents.

The doily is Teneriffe lace, about 20 inches square with just a few little bits
of fabric inserts. I'm going to see if I can get the stain out, then wash and
block it. I'm sure no one at the sale had any idea what it was...and I didn't
tell them.

And to top off the day, someone told me my picture was in the paper. When I
looked, it was the local lace group, eating lunch in a local deli. The story
was about the deli and had us as a group enjoying eating there. That day we
had five husbands with us, so it made a nice large group.

And that was my Sunday adventures.

Should I say that Saturday I rode around for a while in a 1931 Alpha-Romeo
replica car. In the late afternoon, our town had a Drag the Gut Festival with
well over a hundred cars driving up and down our main street while people lined
the street just watching. It was a nice, warm, breezy evening.... perfect
weather. I didn't want to spend the evening riding up and down, so I and my
lace pillow had a table outside the local wine store. I drank wine and made
lace while watching the cars.

My husband drove the car up and down the whole evening. Each time he passed
me, he had a different person riding with him. He was having a great time. He
borrowed the car...it's not ours. He was making the most of it.

Now this wild, weird weekend is over, I have to get back to normal chores. And
thinking about putting some Milanese patterns in the project I'm working on.

Enjoy your summer.
