I was in the same class. 's Gravenmoer means "marshland belonging to the
Count". Trust a northwesterner to twist it into something more
dramatic!!!! Anyway ----- the class was great fun. Almost everyone in the
class finished the first sample, then worked on a second piece.

's Gravenmoer is a geometric lace that is worked on a 45 degree grid. It
has honeycomb stitch as it's ground (CTT pin CTT), uses gimps, and has a
very unique Diagonal Half Stitch. Once the DHS is mastered -- which can
take a few tries, plus a few swear words -- the lace works up with the
speed of Torchon. It has it's own special features which are frequently
included in the patterns.

Esther Perry had great patience with us as we worked to master that very
unusual half stitch. It is worked on the diagonal, and the main grid lines
come out vertical instead of horizontal like the standard half stitch.

The other challenge with this lace is pronouncing it correctly--which I
doubt that I ever did right. <G>

Give this lace a try sometime, if you want to do something a bit different.
It was alot of fun!

Happy lacing,
