I think it would have been helpful if I had mentioned a little about turning bone.
Any miniature turning need sharp tools but bone is especially needy of sharp tools, they also blunt quicker. Secondly I probably use a "scraping" technique and scraping tools more than I use cutting techniques. The obvious is that being a hard material you can only take smaller cuts/scrapes on bone. I actually polish them off the lathe using a VERY fine grinding paste and a soft buffer wheel on my grinder.
