That depends on how the grid is used to graph the lace. Some people graph a
torchon pattern by holding the graph paper in normal "portrait" position and
use every other square. Then the distance between edge pins (or any pair of
pins directly above/below each other) is two squares, as Brenda says.
However, other people graph torchon by turning graph paper 45 degrees, so the corners of each square are points. Then you put pinholes at every corner of each square. The distance between edge pins is along the hypotenuse of a right triangle--the square root of (2 x (graph size squared)). The hypotenuse of 2mm grid would be about 2.85mm.
A 2mm grid used diagonally compares to straight 1.42mm grid which, as Robin says has 2.85mm between footside pinholes, but the 12 wraps between pinholes still applies. Divide 12 by the distance in mm between the footedge pinholes then multiply by 10 to get the wraps/cm.
12 divided by 2.85 = 4.21, x 10 = 42.1, so 42 wraps/cm,
and a suitable thread would be DMC Broder Machine 50.
For Bucks and other point grounds it's 10 wraps between footedge pinholes
