In response to a request about the engineering felt (it may have other names in other parts of the world) some of us use here in NZ! I obtain it from the NZ Felt Co., in Auckland and I understand that one of its uses is somewhere in car engines. I don't know much more than that and I am sure it has other uses as well, perhaps someone is better informed on this than I am. It is made of quite dense felt, so holds the pins well and it is quite expensive! However it does last for ages and does save wear and tear on your pillow. Someone suggested just using a board underneath and that would work, but we have been in the habit of using it on our pillows.
