Dear Fellow-Spiders,
I've enjoyed reading about all your current projects (summer or otherwise). Arachne contacts are some consolation for a summer devoid of lace diversions.

Many thanks for all the advice and encouragement I have received since expressing my frustration with Flanders last week (Sunday 3rd August). I doubt if I shall ever really take to diagram-based lace, but Binche is so elegant and there are so many gorgeous patterns around - not least Catherine Belleville's "Olive Branches", which is one of my goals.

I've now completed the first 4 samples from Mary Niven's book. I think I've got the hang of the basic Flanders ground, the use of the ring pair and the cunning interchange of passives and workers (some tricks there that I might apply elsewhere). I'm already familiar with Kat stitch/Paris ground.

Now I shall go and practise some Snowflakes - might help me to cool down (g.)

Bridget in Watford, England, where yesterday was officially declared the hottest on record.
