Following recent local talk about the method of doing prickings, may I ask what is your normal / preferred method? My ideal method is to photocopy the pattern, adjusting the size for the thread I propose to use, then pin this to a thickish light brown card (sold here in the UK as pricking card by the lace suppliers), and pin both to a cork board. Then I carefully prick each hole, with a needle just a fraction smaller then the pins I intend to use, carefully keeping the pricker upright for accuracy. Once all the holes seem correct, I carefully take the sandwich off the cork board, and hold it up to the light, to check for all the holes - if the pattern is a geometrical one, I would inspect the reverse for symmetry. The next stage is to draw in all the gimp lines, with an indelible drawing pen. An alternative method is to cut the pricking slightly smaller than the card, and take a piece of 'blue transparent film' slightly larger, and use this to attach the pricking to the card. You then have to prick all the holes, as before, but you don't have to draw any lines. The main disadvantage of this is the lack of accuracy, and the difficulty of getting the pins in (and out). However, if you wish to sort of 'design as you lace' this is easiest directly onto graph paper, but this needs to be somehow coloured tso you can see the (white) threads. I am currently experimenting with photocopying directly onto coloured card. What do you all do? Are there any easier methods? Cheers, Milada in a hot and sunny Somerset UK
