I have four of pin vices. The 3 aluminium ones set in wood will only take small needles, but the pistol grip one with a black vice will take much bigger needles. The aluminium ones will take a larger needle if you cut it in half with a pair of pliers - lets it sit further into the pin vice, and cuts off the thickest part of the needle near the eye which you don't use when pricking.
