I'd say that you weren't copying the design, but copying a page from the magazine. I don't think the producers of the magazine would be very happy if you did that. It would depend on the conditions under which the designer allowed the magazine to publish their work as to whether you could ask the designer if you could make copies. I don't know what the lace organisation's policies are in general if you are currently a member of the organisation and copy from an old magazine, but I do know that one organisation in the UK is very strict on not letting non-members have copies of anything in it's magazines past or present. Logically it would seem the situation on magazines not being available or being old issues is the same as Miss Channer's mat being out of print - tough, you can't have it.
