Avital said, "I have, perhaps unfairly, thought of Irish
laces as rather crude cousins to the more refined European
laces, but this particular example is splendid."

My first exposure to Irish Lace was when I saw the Irish
Lace on the hem of a very old Christening gown being worn by
a infant. The gown had been in his family for many
generations, and the lace was incredibly fine and splendid.
I was stunned at how tiny the stitches were, and couldn't
even imagine a crochet hook fine enough to do the work!

So I have never harbored anything but admiration for Irish
lace... although since then I have seen some crude
examples. But then, there are crude examples of all lace!
