the lumbermen's contests. And each little item in, say, the craft show (or craft exhibit) would be called ... wait for it ... an item in the craft show.
In the lingo of the Cloverdale Rodeo and Exhibition (not very far from Vancouver, BC), individual items are always called 'entries'. Even when they're only there for display, and no competition is involved.
Even my little corner with lace samples, books, pillowstand, pillow and myself demonstrating, has been called an 'entry' ;-(
