<< Thank you Jeri for finding out the rest of the Giraffe-story.
In the book "A Celebration of Bedfordshire Lace" from plate 29 til 32 are
some of this animal-laces, not the giraffe. I bought the book in the Museum.

Dear Ilske and those who love Bedfordshire laces,

I have this book from the Cecil Higgins Gallery. It is possible to order it
and several other Cecil Higgins Gallery books in the U.S. from Holly Van
Sciver. In Canada, I think Trillium carries it.

For everyone -- you can do a google search on "A Celebration of Bedfordshire
Lace" and bring up several web sites. The museum shop is:

http://www.cecilhigginsartgallery.org/shop.htm
or
http://www.cecilhigginsartgalery.org

At the second address, select "Collections", then "Lace" (for a history of
the Lester family), then "A Social History" - to see some of the pictures in the
book. It is also possible to obtain museum hours, and a map at this site.

Fair warning to those with bookcase storage problems. This 51-page book is
16 1/2" x 12", and spiral-bound. Very floppy to handle and protect. The cover
is heavy glossy-finished paper, not hard bound. I paid $25 for it from Holly
earlier this year. This price does not cover postage and handling. It is
not for everyone; there are no patterns, for example. The photos are extremely
clear, which will please Bedfordshire lace collectors.

Other lovely books about Bedfordshire laces have been authored by Barbara
Underwood. She has been recommended by other Arachneans, and if you wish to
learn to make Bedfordshire laces, I would recommend you do a google search for
Barbara Underwood to obtain more information. My library contains four books by
her, so there should be no shortage of instructional materials available to
purchase or borrow from your library, the IOLI library (if you are a member), or
InterLibrary Loan (through your local public library).
