I, too, like working with brass pins. If you have a horse-hair pillow, then the pins won't rust if left in - at least that is what I found, after leaving my beaut horse-hair pillow, with some lace on it, for 2 or 3 years, while I worked on other pillows (Note the plural!!) When I eventually went back to it, and fearing the worst, I had a wonderful surprise to find the pins came out clean and shiny!
