Yes, yes, yes! Together with my lace friend Pauline, I visited Koniakow when
we were on the Polish Textile tour last year. Some of you may remember my
writing about it in my Polish Adventures. We had expected to find bobbin lace
and at first were disappointed to find crochet, but the work was so lovely
that we were happy to be there.

In the little shop, pinned onto the wall together with the lacey mats, was a
strange red piece. When I asked what it was, it turned out to be a crochet
'thong' in red with white borders. Pauline and I were killing ourselves
laughing and I was determined to buy one for my collection. So then Pauline
bought one for the Lace Guild Collection and it is there for anyone to see,
duly catalogued.

I asked why they made them in crochet and was told it was originally part of
an advert on Warsaw television. Evidently they caught on as a fashion
accessory.

Mine is in the crochet drawer, I can assure you that I have never worn it!!
