I notice the thread about thimbles for lacemaking. When I feel the need to use something on my finger I use a Thimblette, which is a little sticky on plastic pad. It moulds nicely to the finger, is reusable and has worked very well for me. I believe they are available in other parts of the world and may be supplied by embroidery shops rather than lace shops.
