Sorry; that's my fault entirely... I tend to refer to that book as The Cook Book, because, of all the books that Bridget Cook wrote (solo or in co-operation with others), that's the one that, IMO, is the most important one -- it has all kinds of tricks and tips on how to do various bits of lacemaking (starting, ending, crossing pairs, joining, mounting, etc, etc, etc). I've found it to be an absolute "must have" book, ever since I bought it (accidentally <g>) in '89. Its real title is: "Practical Skills in Bobbin Lace"; the original hardback has been published by Batsford, Dover reprinted it as a paperback and continues to reprint it periodically. ISBN: 0-486-25561-1.
But it is not a beginner's "teaching book" as such... There are several of *those* and everyone has their own favourite (I learnt from Jennifer Fisher's "Torchon Lace for Today" so, naturally, like it best, but I think it's no longer in print). There's even one written (recently, so it's not yet included in links) by "our own" -- an Arachnean, Lorelei Hadley.
Basically, whenever one's looking for general info on lacemaking, the best starting point is Lori Howe's (aka Lori-the-Lace-Fairy; another Arachnean) website. Her website is *huge* and covers (or, at least, touches on) just about every possible "angle" (including stamps with lace in them <g>), and hundreds of lace-related links.
