Dear Lacemakers:

In Bill Rowe's book is the following information:

On page 22, he introduces Chapter 2 with the heading: "The Panels Today". He
explains he has listed these alphabetically.

Mrs. Mason's lace panel is under the heading "Ilkeston", on page 38. The
text says that on November 27, 1993 a lace panel was auctioned at Southeby's and
was purchased by Mrs. Sheila Mason. The panel was obviously of early
manufacture, the box being marked "Panel number 3, Not for Sale". He gives more
information about the Masons, saying they were framework knitters by 1739 and have
connections going back to the very beginning of the industry.

I am very grateful that this panel went to a collector in a position to
preserve it in a fine collection that has been documented. Some of the copies have
disappeared -- perhaps to fatal fates.
