I guess I should weigh in here since this topic has been running on for a while. I've reviewed all the digital camera threads in the archives (there are more than one by now) and it appears to me that the thread started out as a questionable lace-related topic (the original message was about Nikon camera software crashing the system) and moved into more closely lace-related discussions (e.g., recommendations for camera features that help one to photograph lace). Because digital cameras are so useful for lace collectors and lace makers, lace-related discussions of technical equipment does belong on lace.
At the same time, I recommend that general questions about -specific- digital camera problems be prefaced with the request to be answered off-line, via private e-mail (it's true that not everyone gets Lace-Chat, but everyone knows how to use private e-mail). The reason I make this recommendation is that general technical questions are beyond the scope of this list and if they pertain to specific cameras (e.g., Nikon 5700), they are likely to be of relevance to a very small number of people. I would not go so far as to say that these questions should never be raised on Lace, since Lace reaches the largest number of subscribers, but please keep in mind that specific software and camera models will not be of general interest to the list. I realise that there is a grey area between lace-specific and irrelevant discussion, so I am not prepared to say that the topic of digital cameras does or does not belong on Lace.
