There's still the Mavica type cameras. The older Mavicas recorded directly onto floppy disk, so you didn't need any particular kind of ports or software--just something that could read jpegs. The newer Mavicas record onto CDs, so there should still be no worry about operating system or ports. I took many excellent pictures on my floppy-Mavica. It got closer than an inch to the subject, so I could get great magnification of embroidery and lace. Unless it was behind glass--the autofocus focussed on the glass, and when you're only 2 inches away, the 1/2 inch between the top of the glass and the lace is 25% off, so out of focus. Then you have to back up and use telephoto. Robin P.
