Just tried out the twined gimps with metallic thread on a linen bookmark
(leftovers from the Seashore edge) and it works a treat, makes the metallic
really stand out well.  I really can't understand why it's not a basic
component of Torchon.   And yes, two twists at a change in direction is much
neater.<<<

I tried it with "Amy" (a bookmark from the IOLI bulletin a couple of years
ago), using one of those (#20?) crochet/tatting threads against tatting
cotton (#80).  Except for where I forgot once to twist (just now discovered
it--oops), I don't see anywhere I'd want it to have an extra twist.  And
this pattern has the gimp doubling back and forth a whole lot.  Maybe
needing an extra twist at direction changes depends on the thread used.  I
can send a picture to anyone who wants to see for themselves.
