Jean,

When working Honiton and simliar laces I always use acetate to surround the area I'm 
working on then a cover cloth with a hold cut in the middle (that sounds worse than it 
really is).

I find that the acetate underneath the cover cloth gives the cover cloth a diferrent 
feel to that of the cloth on a pillow alone.

Don't know if this helps - just thought I'd share it.
