I believe that Madeira Cotona and Madeira Tanne are the same thread, but
Cotona is wound on cotton reels and Tanne on slimmer spools to make a cop in
larger quantities. One of my early thread purchases in 1996 or 1997 was
several shades of Tanne in green and yellow, in size 50 I think. The pale
green was a lovely colour, but in use I found that the threads parted with a
sigh under no tension at all. At first I put this down to inexperience, but
then I found that the darker greens and the yellow didn't break at all.
After a second attempt with the pale green which suffered from the same
problem I threw the spool away. So I wonder if your pale green and mine
were the same. I'm pretty sure that it would be possible for dyes to change
the strength of a thread, after all they are chemically reacting with the
cotton to change its colour.
