Montupet wrote a follow up of that novel, which takes place during Napoleon III's Empire, but don't bother buying it for the lace, it's hardly mentioned, except that the heroine is the owner of a lace factory and invited to Court. Strictly a romance!! The French title is Judith-Rose. I'm not even sure it's been translated into English. One book that is very interesting to read is The Ladies'Paradise, by Emile Zola. It's not strictly about lace, but it has a wonderful description in it of lace being displayed in the first deparment store in Paris, in the 19th century, and it's all about the department store, the effect it has on the neighbouhood, and the life of the staff (incredible hardships!!).
