This is an interesting question. I am assuming that we are not talking about machine made lace that one might like to use on clothing. I cringe at the thought of cutting up large pieces of handmade lace which will result in very few such lengths being available to future generations. On the other hand, practically speaking, when I buy lace I don't see much value to having multiple repeats of the pattern. If I can buy one repeat of a lace for $50 I might buy it. If the seller is selling 20 repeats for $1000, I won't buy it. I am a penny ante collector, and even if I had a thousand dollars to spend, I would prefer one repeat of 20 different patterns to 20 repeats of one pattern. While I could stand on a soap box and say I find it imoral to cut lace up, I can imagine the seller will draw conclusions from the actions of the buyers and quietly go into the back and cut it up. Are any buyers willing to add a premium for a large uncut piece? Large pieces are also harder to store and impossible to display. I suppose the result of this will be that if the lace market ever comes back and people would be willing to pay a premium for large pieces there won't be very many. Devon
