I went to the Allhallows exhibition in Honiton, was it 2 years ago? The Honiton Lacemakers were demonstrating in the hall next door. One of thm was makig a fan. She had the background net mounted in a square tapestry frame and the motifs done so far on the net. I know this isn't the same as joining the motifs together, but it is the "masterplan" approach which seems logical.
