Knotted gimp
This allows you to enclose a motif firmly or to avoid adding a pair of gimps. (I'm using 'motif' to mean whatever you are going to encircle with the gimp.)
1. Make a small loop, held by a pin to the right, when the motif is on the left. When the motif is on the right, pin on the left.
2. Take the gimp through the pairs that you need to make the motif. Make the motif.
3. Remove the pin, and take the gimp through the loop by passing it underneath and over the loop. Pull the gimp tightly, as in A and B. The middle sketch at the bottom of the page is how not to do it.
Hope this helps. Back to my pillow. I'm almost finished my 4th piece of Czech lace.
