Had a wonderful time at the Ithaca Lace Days! I had a class with Lenka Suchanek about wire bobbin lace. She's a great teacher, and was patient with my need to learn how to do some of the basic things. See her webpage: http://www.silverpinstudio.com
Such a cool class! I just love this stuff!!! We made leaves in copper wire. I got one done in the first 2 classes, and another almost finished the second day. Finished that one, a maple leaf today, and have started another one. I'd like to make some of these for my brother in AK, as he misses the New England foliage so. This lace is really fun to make, the threads stay right where I put them, and if I break one, it's no problem to replace it. Have lots of ideas that I want to try with this lace.
The entire event was excellent, as always. Many vendors were there with their wares, it's always great to see so much lace stuff in one room! The raffles are always exciting. I didn't win any, but Jane won 2 this year. I enjoyed seeing Karey Solomon, of Tatting Times. Have been going to her tatting conferences in the spring for a few years now.
A lovely display of laces were also in the vendor's room. It's always nice to see what people have been making.
Devon gave a fascinating talk about the Laces of the Robber Barons and lace from the Met. I really enjoyed the talk and slide show.
After the banquet, Lenka gave a talk about lace in Precious Metals, another extremely interesting talk and slide show.
The memories of the Ithaca Lace Days should keep me smiling for a long time!
