Here's another way to get a cheap plastic ring.  I went to my local 
dollar store and found a children's plastic horseshoe toss game.  It had 
a stake (which I threw out) and 3 rings, 2 of which other lacemakers 
bought.  So the cost of my ring was C$0.33 - that's 0.22 euros, 26 US 
cents, or 15 pence.  Not a bad deal.
