The trouble with Portugal was that all the bank machines were supplied/owned by the same company. So it didn't matter which bank I went to or which city I was in, they all rejected my card. Since then I haven't been prepared to risk trying to vacation for 3 weeks on C$350, which was all the cash I had with me.
