Hi everyone In Interweave Knits, summer '04 (pg. 40) there is an article "modern takes on Old Traditions" about a textile studio that uses the conventional with the unconventional - stainless steel and paper; silk, linen and nylon...the bit that really caught my eye was a line about a textile designer. To paraphrase: Setsuko Torii works with the innovative yarns to make streamlined garments and accessories that would fit nicely in a Mies van der Rohe setting. Though she reads all sorts of fashion magazines, she garners ideas from other kinds of design as well, such as architecture, furniture and *traditional bobbin lace.* Well. I had to investigate this website: www.habutextiles.com
At a quick glance I did find fabric that reminded me of leno weaving (spacious and lacey) but not anything that suggested traditional BL. Then I found in the list of yarns a silk and stainless steel combination on offer - the textile can be 'posed' when finished. This has possibilities for BL (having tried it once, I don't like making lace with strands of solid metal - give me fibre with that!). Hmm? bye for now Bev in blustery Sooke BC (recovering from snow and preparing for freezing, on Vancouver Island, west coast of Canada) - To unsubscribe send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] containing the line: unsubscribe lace [EMAIL PROTECTED] For help, write to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
