But this silver plated wire is a dream to work with ( and not the nightmare
variety either) I AM drawn to wire, because of its glitz factor. I just love
the shiny, sparkling stuff. I have a whole stash of iridescent threads.
The beads were not a problem. Very small fine beads usually have a relatively
large hole. I beaded with the same wire I made the lace from. To use 2 plies,
I just twist the ends together and snip (the twists never get to the very end
of the wire) Voila! a threaded needle! Besides, I must have 14 magnifiers for
anything that attempts to escape notice. Some of the beaded elements have a
lot of picots or loopy winkie pin edges, so I tried to set the beads edgewise
so that the open circles of the beads have the same rythm as the open circles
of the picots, which are just about the same size.
The only real problem is that 2 plies of size 35 AWG wire don't make a stiff
enough piece of jewelry, even when closely supervised in a firm plait. I am
going to have to find something that can serve as a backing or mounting. I
have considered a silver ring pin, or backing the lace with point ground in
single ply wire (let me lie down a minute, the feeling will pass) or a second
plait silver soldered behind the outer ring. Maybe a clear acrylic disc. It
would be really cool to find thin acrylic sheets with an iridescent glaze.
We'll see.
The wire variations are not masochistic, the pricking is about 150% of the
original. I have another set of prickings at 200%. I am still dreaming up
what to do with them.
I am enchanted with the 2 Pair Inventions and have an interpretation in tatting
in the works (not tatting in wire, but the thought IS intriguing). The thread
I am working with is tatting cotton size 80, so getting the scale right is
proving to be a problem. But I like to solve puzzles.
I am just having a ball with the Inventions.
