I've just bought myself a treat - Bobbin Lace with Ribbon Gimps by Eeva-Liisa Kortelahti. I'm already underway using some Moravia linen and hand died silk ribbon, but I've got a couple of queries.
First, what are "Pingouin Rubane 100% polyamide double knitting" and "Tahiti Novita 100% acrylic". Are they both flat ribbons, like silk ribbon, or soft, thick round thread. Next, Eeva-Liisa uses linen 70/3 thread throughout the book. Is this because linen is stiffer, and will hold the flat ribbon more securely? Same query for the ground, which appears to be mostly CTCT pin CTCT. Is this for stability? And finally, my contribution to anyone trying something with ribbon gimps, that I've discovered so far. Mechlin "insect" pins are marvellous for securing the folds in silk ribbon when turning corners, and a "hookie" bobbin makes a great ribbon gimp holder.
