Whenever I sit at the pillow for long stretches, I end up with muscle spasms in my lower back. (I'm talking multiple days here, as in a long workshop!) Numerous suggestions have been made to avoid this problem. New ideas may have emerged since our last discussion.

Not an *new idea*, but I've never "aired" it on Arachne before... I go out for a smoke :)

March (not walk) around the perimeter of the Convention hotel (likely to be, *at least*, a quarter of a mile) 3-4 times during the time it takes you to reduce a fag to ashes, and you're all set for the next 90-120 minutes of bending over the pillow :)

Ask me, it's much harder to find solutions on a 7-10 hour (off-the-beaten track parts of Europe) flight, and during the layovers... The airports are too crowded to do any *brisk* moving of body parts, and the planes are worse. And, these days, you can't risk *leaving* the airport, unless your layover is at least 90 minutes, because of the return security check-ups, which take forever at the larger airports... Any delay in landing, and your layover shrinks to 20 minutes (though, covering a mile with a heavy on-board bag, at a trot, in that time *does* tend to unkink some of the spine and leg cramps<g>)
