Thanks very much Jeri, for all that info and all the effort you put into
writing it.
I rarely use thread doubled (unless like someone else said I am sewing on
buttons) and rarely have problems with thread twisting/ tangling/ shedding /
or anything else extraordinary, and until I heard it mentioned on Arachne
had never thought about which way to thread a needle. I was taught sewing
and embroidery at school from about the age of 8 , but never recall the
direction of the thread being mentioned. So I guess I've just been lucky all
these years! Hence the puzzle
