I don't know. I only know that the spools are *designed* for use in sewing machines and so the thread has to be used as it comes off the spool. Therefore, use it as it comes off the spool for handsewing.
Of course, when you wind your bobbins in pairs, it doesn't make any difference which end you wind onto which bobbin! Just which way you thread a needle. Robin P.
