Well said. When I first heard the theme, at IOLI Denver, I felt excited (not for myself -- I couldn't design an exit out of a paper bag) because I love table settings so much. But the rules are so excessively restrictive, I worry that a lot of people won't bother to try. And if they do, surely the format will unduely limit the scope for creativity.
I guess the answer will be something along the lines of, "It's **their** contest, they can do as they like" but it won't be much of an answer. I would surely love to see what the rational is beyond that, if any.
