I love the idea of a 24-hour lacemaking relay. But September

Sounds to me like this should be separate from the UK National Lace Day
and become a new, International Lace Day.
I agree, especially given that the UK and the US dates celebrating lace
do not coincide, and there may be other such "national" dates, also not
coinciding, in place in other countries. We ought to have a date of our
own. Or several relays each year, each coinciding with a big lace event
in a given country (which could then be advertised
locally/internationally to add more spice to the event)
Since it's date-line to date-line, you can pick whatever date you
like. How about the Arachne list's anniversary date in April? Then it
can be an annual event, if it works well.
Sounds good to me, especially since the idea sprouted on Arachne. It
could also be one of the dates, if we decided to have lace-in relays
throughout the year (each coinciding with a country's celebration if
they have them? Or things like St Catherine's Day?).
As for having to wait till mid April for the first International
event... As several people have pointed out, we'll first need to run a
couple of trial runs, to de-bug the scheme, before we launch it off
with a big fanfare. Mid April seems to be tailor-made for this year,
since April 15 is a Saturday, and April 16 is Easter Sunday; it almost
seems like the date was "meant" :)
